May through October: mosquitoes and ticks
Deer ticks are active any time the ground is above freezing, and Cumberland County has some of the highest Lyme rates in the country. Mosquito pressure peaks July through September, especially near the Fore River, Back Cove and any standing water. Barrier treatments every few weeks through the season are the standard approach for yards that get used.
Year-round: bed bugs, spiders, pantry pests
Bed bugs do not care about seasons, and a city with hotels, colleges and short-term rentals sees them steadily. Spiders and pantry moths are constant, low-level issues in most homes.
How a first visit works

Sticky traps for a single mouse, hardware-store ant bait for small sugar-ant trails, or knocking down a paper wasp nest the size of a golf ball are reasonable things to try yourself. Call a professional when:
- You see carpenter ants indoors in spring or find frass. Store-bought sprays scatter the colony without killing the queen.
- There are droppings in more than one room, or you hear activity nightly. That is a population, not a visitor.
